Zero Trust Architecture and the robust capabilities of Taiwan’s InfoSec firms to be highlighted
TOKYO, May 18, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), a world-leading applied technology research institute, is spotlighting the future of cybersecurity at the upcoming Taiwan Security Solution Day in Tokyo on June 6. Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) has quickly become industry-standard for fighting against cyberattacks, and the event will explore how Taiwan’s cybersecurity companies can leverage ZTA and other leading-edge strategies to safeguard enterprises.
Noted as a leading hub worldwide, Taiwan’s cybersecurity market is reported to have a high CAGR of 11.1% from 2022-2027. Yet with growing risks both globally and in Japan, Nikkei recently reported that cyberattacks on Japanese businesses have doubled in three years and that hackers have been quick to find and take advantage of vulnerabilities. To educate attendees about effective approaches to this threat landscape, Taiwan’s industry leaders will hold sessions at Taiwan Security Solution Day on top cybersecurity trends.

Airtight cyber-defense with ZTA
A major focus of the event will be on ZTA — a cornerstone of modern cybersecurity strategy. In traditional models, there is a trusted internal network and any users or devices in that network are assumed to be safe; zero trust eliminates this assumption and requires thorough verification.
“In response to growing advanced persistent threats (APTs), particularly in the era of remote work, ZTA has emerged as a new and formidable network security strategy to adapt to today’s digital, cloud, and mobile working environment,” notes Mr. Akuei Hsu, Manager of the Industry, Science and Technology International Strategy Center at ITRI. “With ZTA, enterprises are better equipped to handle internal and external threats, achieve granular control over resources, improve user experience, and align with compliance standards.”
Widely considered to play a lead role in the future of cybersecurity, ZTA has even been embraced by the United States government in an executive order on cybersecurity. Similarly, Taiwan’s authorities are progressively rolling out zero trust, with an emphasis on identity verification and safeguarding financial institutions.
Another important topic covered at the event will be supply chain security solutions — a critical concern for industries worldwide.
Taiwan’s leading cybersecurity ecosystem
The cybersecurity industry in Taiwan has demonstrated exceptional capabilities over the years, primarily in safeguarding strategic sectors.
“Taiwan’s InfoSec industry has been remarkably successful at protecting the sensitive intellectual property and supply chains of critical industries like the semiconductor industry,” adds Mr. Hsu. “And it is these world-class capabilities and infrastructure that put Taiwanese cybersecurity firms in a unique position for businesses worldwide to entrust them with protection of their mission-critical data.”
Companies based in Taiwan are also a frequent target for hackers, leading the industry and government to pay special attention to information security, particularly for semiconductor industry supply chains.
Having already earned the trust of various companies around the world to manage their cybersecurity needs, a number of Taiwan’s InfoSec startups have achieved international recognition with numerous awards and accolades. For example, Lydsec, a leader in user authentication technology, won the top prize in cybersecurity at the SelectUSA tech competition in 2022.
Moreover, ITRI’s regular surveys of the Taiwanese InfoSec industry have shown Japan to be the top market of interest.
